Elegant Family Affair

Newton, MA

Elegance is not impossible in a busy family home, as this project illustrates. These clients contacted us to give their recently purchased, stuck in the 90’s, home a full refresh and renovation. Since the family included two young children (and one more on the way), Barbara included lots of family friendly materials and finishes. Some areas feel more modern, while others have more of a transitional flair.

In the kitchen, Barbara replaced the dated fireplace surround with streamlined wood look tile. New quartz counters and comfortable bar stools create a space for kids’ snacks as well as adult comfort. The family room doubles as a kid’s craft room, but also houses a piano and guitars, a library and a sitting area for parents to hang out with their children. The living room features a stain resistant sectional sofa facing large TV screen but also houses refined decor, a wet bar, and sophisticated seating. The entry foyer offers bins to throw shoes in, and the dining room has an indoor-outdoor rug that can be hosed down as needed! Upstairs, Barbara designed the primary bedroom as a romantic, transitional retreat, while the children’s bedrooms offer bright colors and fun kid-centered decor.
